Teaching: God Never Leaves Us or Forsakes Us

When we’re in the depths of struggle, waiting for a breakthrough that seems impossible, or battling relentless spiritual warfare, it can feel like God has abandoned us. Our prayers seem to go unanswered, our efforts feel fruitless, and we begin to wonder if He sees us at all.

I recently shared some journal entries from one of the darkest seasons of my life—a time when I was obsessed with finding success in business, convinced that achieving my goals would bring relief and solve all of my problems. When that breakthrough didn’t come, I felt trapped in an endless cycle of frustration, pain, and despair. I cried out to God, questioning His presence, His timing, and His plan for my life. And yet, even when I couldn’t see it, He was moving.

I didn’t understand God’s ways or, for that matter, the strongholds of the enemy and the havoc he plays in our lives. I felt like I was being shredded to pieces, and if that’s how you’re feeling now, I don’t want you waiting weeks or months for me to get to what God taught me for you to start experiencing God’s goodness, strength, comfort, peace, and love.

What Scripture Says About God’s Presence in Our Struggles

If you are in a season of waiting, feeling forgotten, or battling overwhelming spiritual warfare, you are not alone. God’s Word is filled with His promises to never leave us or forsake us, even in the darkest valleys.

God is Near, Even When We Can’t Feel Him

  • “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
  • “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” — Psalm 23:4

When our emotions tell us that God is distant, Scripture reminds us that He is near. He is especially close to those who are struggling, those who feel broken, and those who have no strength left. Even when we feel abandoned, He is present, working in ways we cannot yet see.

Confess God’s word; speak it over yourself.

Heavenly Father, my heart breaks, and my spirit is being crushed by (list conditions and circumstances impacting you), but I know that You are near. I know that You stay close to the brokenhearted. I declare that even in my pain, You are my comfort. Even when I cannot see it, You are moving on my behalf. You are holding me up and strengthening me. I will not give in to despair because Your presence surrounds me. In Jesus Name. Amen.

God Will Never Abandon You

  • “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” — Hebrews 13:5
  • “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10

These are not empty words. God does not promise a life without hardship, but He does promise that He will never leave us in it. If you are feeling abandoned, these verses are your truth—He has not forsaken you, even if your circumstances make it seem that way.

Confess God’s word; speak it over yourself.

God, I know You are with me. Your Word says that You will never leave me or forsake me. Lord, I want to experience Your presence. I silence every lie that tells me I am alone, and I choose to trust Your Word. You are strengthening me, You are helping me, and You are upholding me with Your righteous right hand. I will not fear because You are my God. In Jesus Name. Amen.

God Answers Those Who Seek Him

  • “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” — Jeremiah 29:13
  • “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” — Jeremiah 33:3

God is not hiding from us. When we seek Him—when we press in, cry out, and truly desire to know Him—He answers. It may not always be in the way or timing we expect, but He reveals Himself to those who pursue Him. If you feel distant from God, ask yourself: Am I truly seeking Him, or am I just seeking relief from my circumstances? God desires a relationship with you, not just to remove your struggles but to transform you through them.

Confess God’s word; speak it over yourself.

God, I seek YOU. I want to know Your ways. I want a closer relationship with You. I repent for any time I have sought You for the wrong reasons or motives. I surrender my desires and align my heart with Your will. I trust that as I seek You, I will find You. Reveal to me the things I need to know and help me walk in Your truth. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Waiting is Part of the Process

  • “The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.” — Lamentations 3:25-26
  • “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31

One of the hardest truths to accept is that waiting is often part of God’s process. In my own journey, I thought the waiting meant God had forgotten me, when in reality, He was refining me. He was teaching me to rely on Him, stripping away my self-reliance and leading me to full surrender. If you are waiting right now, take heart—God is preparing you for something greater than you can imagine.

Confess God’s word; speak it over yourself.

Lord, I’m learning to wait. I receive Your strength and renewal in my waiting. I will not grow weary because my hope is in You. I trust that You are working in my waiting, preparing me for what is to come. I will wait with expectancy, knowing that Your timing is perfect. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Spiritual Warfare is Real, But God Fights for Us

  • “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” — Ephesians 6:12
  • “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” — Exodus 14:14

Many of the battles we face are not just physical or emotional—they are spiritual. The enemy wants to keep us trapped in fear, doubt, and despair. But God has already won the victory. When we put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) and stand firm in His truth, we can resist the lies of the enemy and hold on to God’s promises.

Confess God’s word; speak it over yourself.

Father, I put on the full armor of God. I stand firm in Your truth. I resist the lies of the enemy and declare that You fight for me. I will not be afraid, for I know that greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world. I take authority over every scheme of the enemy, and I choose to walk in victory. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Encouragement for the Time in the Valley, Fire, and Trials

If you are struggling, if you feel abandoned, if you are weary from the battle—know this: God is still with you. He has not left you. He is not ignoring you. The waiting, the trial, the pain, and the battle you are facing now are not the end of your story.

When I look back at my journals from years ago, I can see now what I couldn’t see then—God was there. He was moving. He was sustaining me when I thought I had nothing left. And He is doing the same for you.

You do not have to strive for your breakthrough. You do not have to fight this battle alone. Surrender to Him. Trust that He is working, even in the silence. Hold on to His promises, because He is faithful.

“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.” — Psalm 27:13-14

Remember, I’m STILL waiting on my breakthrough in business, and I was just evicted from my home. I’m not writing this to you from the mountaintop. I’m writing this to you while in a trial but from a place of submission and surrender to God. A place of trust and faith in God. I continue to stand on those scriptures, confessing His Word over my life; I’m continually seeking Him and requesting His peace, strength, guidance, and direction. I’m engaged with and relying on my community of believers to pray for me. I have made the Word of God first and last place in my life. I have decided to walk by faith and not by sight.

Now, what about you? Will you choose to stand on His promises, even when you can’t see the outcome? Will you declare His Word over your life, believing that He is faithful? Don’t wait for your circumstances to change—declare God’s truth now. Speak life over your situation. Seek Him today, and trust that He is moving.

Let’s make this a declaration together:
“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. I will wait for the LORD; I will be strong, take heart, and wait for the LORD.” — Psalm 27:13-14
